Sourceto Sea: The Nile

Not a fitness tracker. A virtual expedition.

Row the length of the
longest river on Earth

This isn't another fitness tracker. It's one monumental journey: every real rowing and paddling workout moves your boat down the actual Nile — 5,500 km from Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea.

iPhone only. Requires iOS 18 or later.

Satellite map of the Nile with your boat's expedition progress, 152 km travelled

Fitness apps count your workouts.
This one takes you somewhere.

One river, one boat, one destination. No streaks to guilt you, no rings to close — just the slow, honest accumulation of distance down a river people have travelled for five thousand years. Miss a week? The Nile waits.

Every workout moves your boat

Unlock real landmarks along the way

Stay motivated by a destination, not a streak

Your effort is the engine

Real distance from real workouts — indoors on the erg or out on the water — mapped onto the actual Nile.

Row, kayak, canoe or SUP

On the water or on an erg. Any rowing or paddling workout counts, metre for metre.

2

Sync or log it

Distance syncs automatically from Apple Health, or add a session by hand in seconds.

3

Watch your boat travel

Follow a satellite map of the actual Nile, checkpoint by checkpoint, toward the sea.

One river, start to finish

5,500 km from Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean — plotted from nearly 1,490 points along the actual river, not a straight line.

Your data, your control

Health access is read-only

The app reads rowing and paddle-sport workouts only. It never writes to Apple Health.

The leaderboard is opt-in

Off by default. It only ever shares your chosen name, country, and total distance — never your workouts.

Delete anytime

Questions, answered

Is Source to Sea free?

Yes — completely free. Every feature, including unlimited distance tracking, landmarks, awards, and the leaderboard, is free, with no subscription or in-app purchase.

Do I need Apple Health?

No. As an Apple Health–connected rowing app, Source to Sea logs your distance automatically after every workout — but you can add sessions by hand instead if you'd rather not connect it.

Can I add workouts manually?

Yes. Enter the sport, distance, and date yourself at any time — useful for older sessions or devices that don't sync to Apple Health.

Does it work with indoor rowing machines?

Yes. Erg sessions count exactly the same as time on the water — indoor rowing motivation is half the reason the app exists. Log the distance from your machine and it moves your boat down the Nile.

Can I use kayaking, canoeing, SUP, or rowing workouts?

Any of them. Source to Sea is as much a kayaking workout app as a rowing one — rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding all count toward your expedition, on the water or off.

Why is the expedition about 5,500 km when the Nile is often quoted as 6,650 km?

The commonly quoted 6,650 km measures the Nile from its most distant headwaters, in the Kagera River system of Burundi and Rwanda. Source to Sea begins at Jinja, Uganda, where the Nile flows out of Lake Victoria, and follows the river to the Mediterranean — leaving out that upstream Kagera stretch. The route itself is plotted from nearly 1,490 points along the river to follow its actual course, but even careful mapping of a river's bends and channels will vary slightly by source. Our goal was a realistic, continuous expedition from Lake Victoria to the sea.

Why doesn't my distance match what Apple Health shows?

Source to Sea uses the workout distance recorded by Apple Health at the time it's read. If a workout is later edited, imported from another app, or logged across multiple devices, the number shown elsewhere in Health can drift slightly from what you see here.

Will there be more rivers in the future?

The Nile is our first expedition. Source to Sea is built so the same idea — real effort, mapped onto a real river — can extend to others down the line.

The river is waiting.
